BabyBox to the Rescue
We've been working on the next installment of our "Gifting Back" program for some time and have felt called to continue serving those that are least able to care for themselves...sweet little babies. The idea is to provide a single, ship-able box of "essential" baby supplies that can be distributed to homeless women and children or to the site of a natural disaster. We call it a BabyBox:
Picture yourself with a 3-month old baby and going through the trauma of a tornado destroying your home, neighborhood and city. Not only is your house destroyed and life turned upside down, but the bare necessities for living become extremely difficult for you to obtain. As an adult, clean water and some simple food (often the focus of initial relief efforts) will sustain you until longer term relief arrives. But babies, on the other hand require so much more. That bottle you used to feed your baby the night before...gone. The clean diapers and ointment to prevent diaper rash...gone. The baby formula your baby needs to survive...gone. Your baby is screaming in hunger or the pain of diaper rash and you need all those things and you need them now. That's where the BabyBox comes to the rescue.
Each BabyBox will contain a 50-pack of diapers, box of baby formula (enough for 38 four-ounce bottles), baby powder, one baby bottle, baby wipes and diaper rash ointment:
Once packed, the BabyBox will be provided to either local shelters for women and children or distributed through other relief organizations in the instance of natural disasters.
It costs us approximately $25.00 to put together each BabyBox. Hopefully we'll be to partner with manufactures of our "essential" baby products in the future but, until then, we wanted to get this program off the ground and see where it goes. Shotwell Candy Co. will donate 10% of all purchases made through www.shotwellcandy.com until December 31, 2013 and every $25.00 will go to creating a new BabyBox! Please e-mail us at email@example.com if you have any ideas that could help us to reach more children and make this program more successful.
